Education

Openschool

For the dropouts and slow learners we conduct the La Salle Open School. Through a bridge course we prepare them to appear for the 8th and 10th standard exam.

Case study -1
I am Manickam, 18 year old son of Meenachisundaram and Chandra of Genguvarpatti village. My father is a mason. My father spent all the money he earned for drinking alcohol. When I was studying in 9th standard my father married another woman and deserted us. My mother was struggling hard to find our livelihood. Seeing her difficulties in maintaining the family I stopped my schooling and went to Tirupoor-the Banian City and worked there for 3 years as a painter. Afterwards I returned home and joined RTU's open school to prepare myself fro writing the Xth examination. The teachers prepared me well with coaching, personal attention, counselling and guidance. I passed the SSLC exam held in March 2006 with 285 marks. During the holidays I worked as a painter and earned some money for my further studies. I have got admission in an ITI at Madurai for the turner course. I am grateful to RTU’s open school staff for the encouragement and support they gave me while I was there.

Case study -2
I am Bhanupriya, 14 years old, born in Ariyaloor village of Trichy district. My parents separated from each other and are living with other partners. I don't know their whereabouts. I am living under the care of my grandmother who is living in G.Kallupatti. She herself is in great difficulty to find her livelihood. She is very old now. I dropped out from school when I was in 6th standard. We heard from the Self Help Group members of G.Kallupatti that RTU is helping dropout children to continue their education.

My grandma took me to RTU and sought their help for my studies. They offered me some monetary assistance under the Home Sponsorship Programme. I am being assisted Rs.500 per month. They also admitted me in the La Salle Open School to enable me to appear for 8th standard exams. The teachers prepared me very well for the exam within a short time. I also worked hard to get through the exam. I passed the exam with good marks. With the motivation and encouragement of my teachers in the open school I am now attending the bridge course to appear for Xth standard exam. I am confident that I can easily pass the exam. I am grateful to RTU for their concern towards my betterment.
