Village Industry
Handloom
We initially started this Village Industry in the late 80’s to give employment to leprosy patients and physically handicapped in the surrounding area. Although our Medical Program has eradicated leprosy from these communities, the unit continues to provide employment opportunities to the many poor men and women in the area.
Currently this is a profit making unit and exports products to Japan, UK, Sweden and major cities in India. Fair Trade organizations support us to give employment opportunities to the poor. This is the source of income for around 100+ households. It also provides much needed funds to support our administration & programmes in the Children's Villages and Outreach Programmes.

The Batik department uses natural dyes in an effort to remain environmentally conscious. The wax used in the process is collected and re-used to help keep the manufacturing and dying process economically viable.
The designs produced follow patterns designed by local artists and students, but customers can specify designs, which we are more than happy to accommodate.
