Computer Center

I am Shankar(Ex-computer Student). I belong to the local village Genguvarpatti near RTU. I completed my higher secondary school in the local Govt. Hr. Secondary school. After that my parents were not able to support for my higher studies. I decided to join the computer training course offered in RTU. I studied sincerely there. I came to know all the basic things of computer operation in RTU computer training center. I successfully completed six month computer training in RTU. I came out with good results in the final examinations.

RTU gave me a university-RTU tied up certificate named CIT ("Certificate in Information Technology"). Apart from syllabus, my computer instructor taught me the trade techniques and technical know-hows of the computer. His friendly way of teaching and advice inspired me a become a computer professional, the position which I hold now.After completing the course I referred a lot of computer books. I gained Confidence in any kind of computer work. I applied to an esteemed company called

SPIC in Tuticorin which is 200 Kms away from RTU. I attended the interview and got a decent computer job. Though I was paid very low at the beginning, the management increased my salary later taking account of my ability, skill and devotion to work. While working there I applied to another company in Tirupur with the help of a higher professional. It is a cotton spinning mill where computers are used extensively for designing, record keeping and for business data base management. I got a job there and am earning Rs.6000/- per month as salary. I am expecting a promotion soon in my company. I am grateful to RTU for the computer training they offered me when I was in calamity.

Tailoring Unit

I am Sariththa from Kannimarkoilpatti village. After completing my Higher Secondary studies I wanted to go for college studies. But the impoverished condition of my family does not allow me to realize my dream. In that context I decided to undergo training in an income fetching trade. By the time I came to know about RTU's tailoring Unit which is stationed in a village with a set of sewing machine and accessories for 6 months giving opportunity to learn sewing skills for women like me. I joined this training course in January 2006 under an

accredited instructor. We are learning sewing art. Apart from stitching dresses ( ladies and children's dresses) we are also learning embroidery works, doll making, wire basket making etc. At the end of the course we will be given a certificate. My plan is to get a loan from the bank and to start a ready made dress making unit at Periyakulam town.

External School Teacher Support

My name is Shobhana. I am 23 years old and a graduate in commerce. Soon after the graduation, on account of extreme poverty in my family I was forced to find a job to substitute the income of my parents. When I heard that there was a vacancy for the post of an assistance teacher in the Adidravidar Primary school in our Sarathupatti Village. I applied for the post. This vacancy was remaining unfilled for many years because of Government's native attitude. I got a temporary appointment in this school in the year 2003 on condition that I will be paid Rs.500/- only per month.

Due to long regular and poor maintenance our school building was in a dilapidated condition school naked bodies. Bro.James Kimpton, the President of RTU while passing this way visited this school. On seeing the pathetic condition of the school and the difficulties the children and the teachers are facing he promised to reconstruct the school building. He constructed the school building with classrooms, staff room, office room, kitchen and toilets facilities. During this time he came to know that I am poorly paid in the school. Now brother is paying me regular salary with which I am helping my parents in maintaining our family. My family is grateful to RTU for the support it is extending to us.
